Are You Ready For The New Mobile Search Algorithm?
Website owners know that the month of April is famous for many Google algorithm updates that impact a lot of websites. The Penguin update, released on April 24, 2012 made a huge impact on sites. Many businesses were completely wiped out of the Google search engine results pages. This algorithm change was powerful and businesses lost hundreds of thousands of dollars if they had built any back links that were questionable in value.
On April 21, 2015 , Google is releasing another algorithm that will impact businesses. Google is now insisting that websites become mobile friendly. More and more business and sales have been attributed to mobile so it makes sense that they do this.
So what are they going to do? They currently have the ability to tell if your site is mobile friendly or not. In Google Webmaster Tools, you will see a site warning message that asks you to fix your site issues so that viewers on cell phones can view your site easily. When your site is mobile friendly, you will no longer see a warning message.
After April 21, those sites that don’t pass Google’s mobile friendly test will not rank well in the mobile search results. This is a good opportunity to gain traffic from sites that aren’t mobile friendly. Rankings in desktop search will not be affected. If you have any search traffic that comes from mobile search, you will be affected so it is in your best interest to comply with the new requirements.
